Alberto Carvalho

Alberto Carvalho served as superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District from February 2022 until his resignation on June 21, 2026. He has faced several controversies, though he has not been convicted of any crimes. In February 2026, the FBI executed search warrants at his home and district office. While the investigation remains active and details are sealed, reports link it to a 2024 contract with the now-defunct ed-tech firm AllHere, whose founder was indicted for fraud. Carvalho was placed on paid leave following the raids and has denied any wrongdoing. In 2020, while leading Miami-Dade schools, an inspector general investigation found no illegal activity but concluded that Carvalho’s solicitation of a $1.57 million donation from a district vendor created an appearance of impropriety. Additionally, a 2008 scandal involved leaked emails revealing an inappropriate relationship with a reporter, which Carvalho acknowledged. He also faces a 2025 lawsuit alleging the misuse of $76.7 million in arts and music education funds.
