Bob Packwood (1932–2026) was a U.S. Senator from Oregon (1969–1995) who resigned on October 1, 1995, ahead of a near-certain expulsion vote. In 1992, reports emerged alleging he made unwanted sexual advances toward over 20 women, including staffers. The Senate Ethics Committee investigation subsequently expanded to include allegations that he used official staff to intimidate accusers, improperly solicited job offers for his ex-wife from lobbyists to reduce alimony, and tampered with evidence by altering personal diaries. The committee unanimously recommended expulsion, citing evidence of 18 sexual assaults between 1969 and 1990.
