Caroline Cayeux

Caroline Cayeux, former minister delegate for local authorities and long-serving mayor of Beauvais, was convicted of tax fraud on April 1, 2026, following a plea bargain procedure known as CRPC. The Paris court sentenced her to a 10-month suspended prison sentence, a 100,000 euro fine, and a 24-month period of ineligibility. Cayeux admitted to understating her personal wealth by 11.7 million euros, which significantly reduced her wealth tax (IFI) liabilities. The conviction followed an investigation launched in December 2022 after the High Authority for the Transparency of Public Life (HATVP) identified major discrepancies in her asset declarations, specifically the undervaluation of an apartment in Paris and a house in Dinard. These findings led to her resignation from the government in November 2022. Additionally, in July 2022, Cayeux faced a public controversy regarding homophobic remarks she made in 2013, during which she referred to same-sex marriage as a design against nature. She subsequently apologized for these statements.
