Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, is currently facing two major sets of criminal charges in the High Court of Accra. In the first case, he and his company, Wontumi Farms Limited, face four counts including defrauding by false pretenses, money laundering, forgery, and causing over GH₵30 million in financial loss to the Ghana EXIM Bank. Prosecutors allege he secured a loan facility for a non-existent agricultural project, submitted forged receipts, and redirected state funds into personal enterprises. He was charged on May 15, 2026. In a separate ongoing trial, Wontumi and Akonta Mining Limited face six counts of facilitating unlicensed mining and assigning mineral rights without ministerial approval at the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve. He has challenged a ruling that dismissed his submission of no case in this matter. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges in these proceedings.
