Former Democratic Progressive Party lawmaker Chen Ou-po served in Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan from 2012 to 2024. On April 14, 2026, the Taipei District Court sentenced Chen to 16 years in prison for corruption and embezzlement, with a six-year deprivation of civil rights. The court found Chen guilty of the following: Bribery and Unlawful Profits: Chen accepted NT$4.13 million in "consulting fees" from United Logistics International Co. between 2016 and 2023 to influence port legislation and fees. He also accepted a NT$500,000 bribe from a car rental association in 2018 to lobby against transportation regulations. Embezzlement and Fraud: Chen and his wife, Hsu Hui-yu, were convicted of inflating assistant salaries between 2012 and 2022 to fraudulently claim NT$3.32 million in government subsidies. Hsu was also convicted of misappropriating NT$1.1 million from the Taiwan Jin Yilan Development Association. Outcome: Chen was acquitted of charges related to unexplained wealth and specific counts of public charity embezzlement. While he admitted to the assistant salary fraud, he denied the bribery charges. His wife received a four-year, six-month prison sentence.
