Diezani Alison-Madueke, Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources (2010–2015) and former OPEC president, has been the subject of extensive international corruption allegations. In June 2026, she was unanimously acquitted by a London jury at Southwark Crown Court of five counts of accepting bribes and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery. Prosecutors had alleged she accepted luxury goods, property use, and cash from oil executives in exchange for government contracts. She successfully maintained that these expenses were loans she intended to repay. Despite this acquittal, she faces ongoing legal challenges in Nigeria. In 2018, she was charged there alongside associates in connection with an alleged $1 billion oil deal. A Nigerian court issued a bench warrant for her arrest in 2020, which was renewed in 2022. Additionally, Nigerian authorities have secured civil forfeiture orders for assets linked to her, including approximately $153 million and over 80 properties, as well as jewelry valued at roughly $40 million. U.S. authorities have also recovered $53.1 million in assets tied to related corruption investigations.
