Diezani Alison-Madueke, Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum Resources (2010–2015) and former OPEC president, has been the subject of extensive corruption allegations and investigations. In June 2026, she was acquitted of all charges in a UK court, including five counts of accepting bribes and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery, following a trial at Southwark Crown Court. Throughout her tenure and post-service, various allegations surfaced: Accusations included the diversion of $28 billion from the Nigerian treasury, $20 billion missing from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), and the awarding of contracts without due process. In 2009, the Nigerian Senate indicted her for the unauthorized transfer of N1.2 billion to a private toll company. Nigerian authorities, specifically the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have pursued ongoing money-laundering charges, initiated extradition proceedings, and secured the forfeiture of over 80 properties and approximately $153 million in assets. US authorities recovered $53.1 million in assets linked to corruption investigations, including real estate and the super-yacht Galactica Star. She has faced accusations regarding the reckless spending of public funds on private jets and luxury items, though she consistently denied all wrongdoing, maintained that expenses were reimbursed, and asserted that she lacked unilateral authority over contract awards.
