Evo Morales

Evo Morales served as president of Bolivia from 2006 to 2019. His career has been marked by significant legal and political controversies. In 2019, Morales resigned following widespread unrest and allegations of electoral fraud in his fourth-term bid, which were supported by an Organization of American States audit. Following his resignation, he faced charges of sedition and terrorism related to alleged efforts to incite violence and blockade cities. Currently, Morales is the subject of an ongoing criminal case involving aggravated human trafficking. Prosecutors allege he maintained a relationship with a 15-year-old girl while in office, resulting in the birth of a child, and that her parents facilitated this for political favors. Prosecutors have requested a 20-year prison sentence. Morales has failed to appear for court hearings, resulting in multiple contempt declarations, travel bans, asset freezes, and outstanding arrest warrants. Morales denies these allegations, labeling them politically motivated, and has remained in the Chapare region since October 2024 to avoid arrest. Additionally, authorities have sought to investigate his alleged connections to drug trafficking networks, citing the 2024 conviction of his former anti-drug chief in the United States.
