Farhad Hossain

Farhad Hossain, a former Minister of Public Administration and Awami League politician, faces multiple legal actions involving corruption and criminal charges. In November 2025, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against Hossain and his wife, Syeda Monalisa Islam, for acquiring assets worth approximately 1.11 crore BDT beyond their known sources of income. Investigators flagged suspicious transactions totaling 6.54 crore BDT across 12 bank accounts. A court imposed a travel ban on the couple in June 2025 due to concerns they might flee and hide illicit assets, including alleged property purchases in Canada. Additionally, Hossain was arrested on September 15, 2024, in connection with the killing of a garment worker during the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement. He faces charges related to this event and has been held in custody while investigations continue. Previously, in December 2023, he received a show-cause notice for violating election codes of conduct by using government vehicles and police protocol during his campaign.
