Greg Lindberg is a former insurance executive and founder of Global Growth who was recently sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for his role in a $2 billion insurance fraud scheme and a separate bribery conspiracy. In the bribery case, Lindberg was twice convicted of attempting to bribe North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey with campaign contributions to remove a regulator overseeing his businesses. His first conviction in 2020 was overturned on appeal in 2022 due to improper jury instructions; he was convicted again in May 2024. Separately, Lindberg pleaded guilty in November 2024 to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. Prosecutors alleged he siphoned $2 billion from insurance companies to fund a lavish lifestyle, including private jets and yachts, while deceiving regulators. In May 2026, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison and ordered to pay $1.6 billion in restitution. Additionally, he faces civil judgments for fraud, including a $526 million order in state court to compensate policyholders.
