Javier Milei, President of Argentina since 2023, has faced several legal and ethical controversies. In February 2025, Milei faced allegations of fraud and illicit association regarding his promotion of the cryptocurrency LIBRA, which collapsed shortly after launch, causing significant losses for investors. While a congressional commission concluded he used his presidential role to spread an alleged scam, the National Anti-Corruption Office ruled that he did not violate the Public Ethics Law, arguing he promoted the token as a private citizen. Judicial investigations into his and his sister Karina Milei's roles remain ongoing. Separately, Milei and his sister have been implicated in an embezzlement scandal involving the National Disability Agency (Andis), where reports suggest a system of collecting bribes for medicine procurement. Multiple individuals were charged, and officials seized significant cash from a involved businessman. Milei has denied these allegations. Additionally, forensic evidence revealed Milei received regular payments from lobbyist Mauricio Novelli starting in 2021 for teaching courses and promotional activities, with amounts reportedly increasing after he became president. Prior to his political career, between 2015 and 2020, Milei entered a tax moratorium following irregularities identified by the AFIP regarding invoices issued as an economist. No criminal convictions have been reported against him.
