Senator Jose Jinggoy Estrada has faced three major plunder charges over two decades. In 2001, he was charged with plunder involving jueteng protection money and other funds; he was acquitted in 2007. In 2014, he was indicted for plunder and 11 counts of graft regarding P183 million in pork barrel (PDAF) kickbacks. He was acquitted of plunder in 2024. While initially convicted of bribery in the PDAF case, that conviction was reversed in August 2024. Eleven graft counts from the PDAF case remain pending. In May 2026, Estrada was charged with plunder and two counts of graft over alleged P573 million kickbacks from 2025 flood control projects. He posted bail for the graft charges but was arrested on June 1, 2026, for the non-bailable plunder charge and remains incarcerated. The Sandiganbayan also ordered his 90-day suspension from the Senate in June 2026.
