Larry Householder is a former Ohio House Speaker and Republican state representative convicted for his central role in a $60 million bribery and racketeering scheme related to FirstEnergy’s $1 billion nuclear power plant bailout (House Bill 6).
Following his July 2020 arrest, he was unanimously removed as Speaker and subsequently expelled from the Ohio House in 2021. In March 2023, a federal jury found him guilty of racketeering. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison on June 29, 2023. His conviction and sentence were upheld by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Separately, Householder faces 10 state felony charges in Cuyahoga County, including theft in office, money laundering, and tampering with records. A request to dismiss these state charges was denied in December 2025. Previously, in 2004, Householder was investigated for campaign irregularities but no charges were filed.
