Samuel D. Tweah Jr. served as Liberia’s Minister of Finance and Development Planning from 2018 to 2024. In December 2023, the United States sanctioned him for allegedly abusing his position to solicit, accept, and offer bribes.
In 2025, Tweah was indicted alongside other former officials for economic sabotage, theft, and money laundering involving approximately US$6.2 million in state funds. On May 8, 2026, he was acquitted of all charges in this case by a jury in Criminal Court C.
