Saulius Skvernelis, a former Lithuanian prime minister and current member of the Seimas, is currently charged with bribery. Prosecutors allege that between June and November 2025, while serving as Speaker of the Seimas, Skvernelis accepted at least 51,000 euros in cash bribes. The charges state he provided political protection to the State Plant Service in exchange for these payments, including securing positions for specific officials and shielding the agency from oversight. The investigation involves an alleged criminal group that collected over 1.1 million euros in bribes from companies to issue phytosanitary certificates. Authorities claim payments were funneled to Skvernelis via his then-advisor Agnė Silickienė, and that he was recorded in criminal ledgers under the alias Krabas. Skvernelis denies all allegations, asserting he never negotiated or accepted money. He has suspended his party membership and parliamentary group affiliation. His immunity was stripped by the Seimas in 2026 to allow for prosecution.
