Fujimori dies after 2009 human-rights conviction

Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, convicted in 2009 and sentenced to 25 years for ordering death-squad massacres and corruption, died in September 2024 after being released on humanitarian grounds in December 2023. His case remains a foundational human-rights precedent in Latin America.
